So many of the people I met living in camps in Greece were insanely qualified and wanting to keep busy. Lots of people volunteered with Red Cross in each of the camps where they work. It was really important to me to show the agency and dignity of people getting on with it, despite having so little control over their lives.

Kordelio camp is closed now, but it was notoriously one of the worst camps in Greece. Hastily opened when borders closed in the north, the site was not fit for people to live in. It took a lot of advocacy to finally shut it down.

I worked with Socrates Baltagiannis on this piece for International Migrants Day (and many other projects ~ an absolutely fab photographer).
